Obtaining Service

New Service - To establish water service at a location that has not had service in the past, contact our business office. The length of time and expense required to establish a new service varies due location, size, work load, etc.

Turning On - In order to establish service where facilities are already in place, contact our Business office. Water can only be turned on if someone is present or customer leaves a note on the door instructing turn-on is ready.

Deposits - New customers must pay a security deposit. If moving from one location to another within our service area, the deposit can be transferred to the new service location.  To assist in your move, AWU can provide service simultaneously at both locations for a period of one week.  When a service is discontinued, the final bill will be withheld from the security deposit and the balance refunded to the customer.

Monthly Billing

Bills for service will be rendered monthly.  The term "month" for billing purposes means the period of time between consecutive meter readings by the AWU, such readings to be the same day of the month or as near as practical every 30 days.

Failure to receive bills in no way exempts customers from payment.

When AWU is unable to read meter after a reasonable effort, the customer will be billed on an estimated consumption.

Discontinuance of Service

When it becomes necessary to cut off water service for non payment of bill, AWU shall have the right to charge a fee for collection and restoration of service.

Responsibility For Service

Arkadelphia Water Utilities owns, maintains and repairs all of the underground water system to the water meter. Maintenance and repair from the meter forward is the responsibility of the customer.

Checking for Leaks

The most common water leak is a dripping faucet. Toilet leaks are second most common.  A quick check can be made by adding some food coloring to the toilet tank after it has filled and become quiet. If the coloring seeps down into the toilet bowl before flushing, this indicates a leak.

To conduct a leak test on your water, turn off all faucets and other water outlets.  Go to your meter and watch the gallon per minute hand (on older meters) or the leak detector, a triangular shaped indicator on the meter.  If either is moving, you have a leak.

About Our Water

Arkadelphia's water supply is the Ouachita River. The City owns and operates a conventional surface water treatment plant capable of producing five million gallons per day. Average daily usage is 2.5 MGD.
