Department Information
The Arkadelphia Police Department was established in 1894. The police department is a proactive law enforcement agency with thirty full-time employees, and one part-time employee. The department is divided into the following divisions:
Administration
This division consists of the Chief of Police, the Communications Supervisor, and one Administrative Clerk.
Communication
The Arkadelphia Police Department has four full-time dispatchers, and one part-time dispatcher that are trained on the National Crime Information Center's and the Arkansas Crime Information Center's database and equipment. The Communications Supervisor serves in a multifunctional position supervising communications, assisting with the Police Departments yearly budget, maintaining records for all officers and dispatch activity statistics, supervising court dockets, and bonds and fines intake.
Criminal Investigation (CID)
The Arkadelphia Police Department has two officers dedicated to Criminal Investigation. CID handles all cases or incident's which require an investigation, and include both felony and misdemeanor charges.
Patrol
The Arkadelphia Police Department has four shifts that make up the Patrol Division. Each shift has one shift supervisor and three patrol officers. This division is considered the eyes and ears of the department, handling the day-to-day incidents and calls that are the majority of the department's activities.
The City of Arkadelphia also has two officers that serve as School Resource Officers. Their primary function is to serve in Goza Middle School and Arkadelphia High School to ensure safety and security in our public schools.
Code Enforcement
In 2007 the Arkadelphia Board of Directors budgeted for a full-time code enforcement officer. Ritchie Smith, a certified law enforcement officer serves in this position. He enforces ordinances that govern issues such as dilapidated structures, signage, trash and debris, junk cars, high grass, and tall weeds. In addition to these issues, he also deals with normal police related issues while on duty. See Ordinance O-02-03 for more details.
